There is so much about Greece that I love, like the cats, the food, the beach, and so much more. All of the architecture is amazing. We stayed in an apartment with our grandparents and a stuffed dog as a pet. 🙂
My dad was on a roll, he made all the dinners and they were delicious. I helped with a few by making my cousin Eve’s famous salad dressing. On the last night before we left, we went to the most amazing Indian dinner I have ever tasted in my life. We got to sit on a couch while eating dinner — it was so cool.
Our apartment was across the street from Zeus’s temple, and half a mile from the Acropolis that lights up at night with a beautiful glow. Two days before we left we went to the Acropolis. The climb was incredibly hot, but the view was breathtaking. The Acropolis is really, really, really old, (even older than me which is saying a LOT!) 🙂
The story is that there were two gods Athena and Poseidon and they were fighting for what is now called Athens, Greece (you might be able to guess who won). Zeus finally said to each to give the town a gift and the town could then chose the one they thought better. So, Poseidon gave them a salt water Spring and horses, which meant that the town would win battles in the sea and on land. Athena gave them an olive tree and said that the olives would mean that they could barter with China and they would not have to fight. The town voted and they chose Athena, because then they wouldn’t have to fight or lose lives and could trade peacefully, which is why the city is called Athens today.
After Athens we went to Hydra. In this house there were three beds. Our grandparents got the first bedroom with a regular bed and bathroom and a mosquito net. My parents got the second bedroom upstairs with a bathroom and mosquito net and Kai and I got the loft bed‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ with a fan and tv. The best part of the housed though was the tiny pool in the courtyard. It was about the size of two hot tubs, but it was cold, and we went in ‍at least ten times a day!
On the first day we went to the beach. It was a rock beach, not sand, but it was really fun. The water was so clear you could see the bottom even when it was 20 feet deep. We stayed there all day and my grandpa got a nice tan I got a nicer burn. We went to the same beach the next day too. On the third day we hiked up the mountain â›°to a beautiful monastery for the prophet Elias. At the top there was a dog who barked every time the thunder boomed. It was so funny, and he seemed to do the trick because the storm never came. On the fourth day, we took a run and then went to a new beach and then back to the beach that our grandparents had gone to.
On the fifth day I had maybe my tenth cheeseburger (I was eating all the American food I could before we went to Egypt!) at The Pirate restaurant at the marina. W then left on a ferry back to Athens and went for a quick swim in the Hotel with our grandparents and had dinner on a rooftop overlooking the Acropolis. We went to our apartment, Rea’s Guest House, and woke up at 4:00 am for our flight to Cairo. Rea was really nice and gave us homemade cookies and ice cream!
Right now, I am on a plane to Egypt and I am so excited to see the pyramids!
